McKenzie System

The McKenzie Method is a system that uses a thorough physical assessment to immediately determine if an individual has a predictable mechanical response, and can effectively direct treatment. In other words, your physiotherapist can look at how your pain and your range of motion changes with very specific repeated movements or sustained positions, and then direct your treatment to progress in the direction of movement that gives the best response.

The McKenzie System was developed by Robin McKenzie, a Physiotherapist in New Zealand in the 1950s, and is now one of the most researched areas in Physiotherapy, showing that this system is both valid and reliable when used by highly trained clinicians. The system has been shown to work well for people who are suffering from almost any musculoskeletal problem—back pain, neck pain, or pain in their upper or lower limbs.
